What is/are Indapamide?

INDAPAMIDE is a diuretic. It helps you make more urine and to lose salt and excess water from your body. This medicine is used to treat high blood pressure. It is also used to treat salt and water retention from heart failure. This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

What should I tell my health care providers before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • diabetes
  • gout
  • kidney disease
  • history of irregular heart beats
  • liver disease
  • pancreatitis
  • small amount of urine or difficulty passing urine
  • systemic lupus erythematosus
  • an unusual or allergic reaction to indapamide, sulfa drugs, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • breast-feeding

How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Remember that you will need to pass more urine after taking this medicine. Do not take your medicine at a time of day that will cause you problems. Do not take at bedtime. Take your medicine at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking except on your doctor's advice.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

  • diarrhea
  • headache
  • loss of appetite

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

This medicine can make you more sensitive to the sun. Keep out of the sun. If you cannot avoid being in the sun, wear protective clothing and use sunscreen. Do not use sun lamps or tanning beds/booths.

Where should I keep this medicine?

Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
